Lawn Care in Mulberry, FL: What Lawns Here Actually Need

By the Luxury Lawns team·Updated September 18, 2026· 5 min read

Mulberry is fifteen minutes southwest of Lakeland, one of the closest towns on our route. Larger lots are the norm here and a lot of properties have real acreage. That changes what lawn care means: more mowing area, more tree work, more brush and fence-line clearing, and less of the tight-quarters detail work that a subdivision lot needs.

Area changes the economics

On a quarter-acre subdivision lot the cost of a visit is mostly the edges and the detail. On two acres in Mulberry the cost is mostly the mowing itself, and equipment and efficiency decide what a fair price looks like. It also changes what is worth doing. A full treatment program on two acres of bahia pasture is rarely sensible; a treatment program on the half acre of St. Augustine around the house, with the rest mown as bahia, usually is. We help decide where that line goes. Our post on what drives the price of a lawn program covers the trade-offs.

Fence lines and property edges

Larger lots have long boundaries and boundaries go to brush fast in Central Florida. Vines, saplings and brush along a fence line become a real clearing job within a couple of seasons if they are ignored, and a wire fence disappears into it. Regular brush control along the edges is cheaper than the periodic clearing job that replaces it, though we do both.

Older homes with established oaks

The older properties in and around Mulberry have mature live oaks, and the same rule applies as everywhere in Polk County: prune them properly, never top them, and accept that the turf underneath has a light problem rather than a fertilizer problem. Our oak trimming guide covers what correct pruning looks like.

Newer builds on the Lakeland side

Toward Lakeland the lots shrink and the construction gets newer, and those lawns follow the standard new-build pattern: compacted subsoil, builder sod, untouched irrigation schedule. Aeration, irrigation tuning and a real program in the first two years prevent the decline.

Commercial and industrial properties

Mulberry has a fair amount of commercial and industrial land, and those properties need reliable large-area mowing, kept edges and a schedule that holds through the wet season more than they need ornamental detail. We build the schedule around the property.

What we do on a Mulberry property

  • Large-area and acreage mowing, plus detail mowing around the house.
  • Fence-line and boundary brush control.
  • Land clearing and lot cleanup.
  • Tree trimming, removal and stump grinding.
  • Treatment programs on the turf that justifies them.
  • Mulch, beds and sod restoration.

Irrigation on larger lots

A lot of Mulberry properties run irrigation off a well, and a lot of them only irrigate the area around the house. That is the right setup. The mistake we see is a controller that runs the same few zones on the same schedule year-round, so the maintained turf is drowned in July and short of water in April. We set the schedule for the season, keep it inside whatever restrictions apply, and check the heads for the iron buildup that well water leaves behind. On a large lot the unirrigated bahia beyond the house is left to the rain, which it handles well once it is established and mown at a sensible height.

Storm season on a big lot

More acreage means more trees, and more trees mean more to look at before hurricane season. Dead wood over the house, the drive and the fence lines is the priority. We assess in late spring so the work is done before the first storm rather than after it, and we handle the cleanup when a storm does come through.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I put a treatment program on my whole acreage?+

Usually not. A program is worth it on the maintained turf around the house. Bahia pasture and the outer areas are better mown and kept clear. We help decide where that line goes on your property.

How often do fence lines need attention?+

In the growing season, regularly. Brush and vines along a boundary go from tidy to a clearing job within a couple of seasons if ignored. Routine control is cheaper than periodic clearing, though we do both.

Is Mulberry on your regular route?+

Yes. It is fifteen minutes southwest of the shop and one of the closest towns we serve.
